Carbon Footprint Reduction
Enhancing drilling operations with an environmental focus helps reduce carbon emissions. Implementing effective practices can lower the carbon footprint while improving performance.
Running a Rig and Consuming Steel and Chemicals Creates Emissions
The production of cement, chemicals and steel emits significant amounts of CO2. Additional emissions occur when transporting these products to the rig site. The rig itself keeps on emitting while operating.

Reduce Sections, Speed Up Tripping and Stick to One Density
Combine sections reduces the number of casings/liners and cement jobs which reduces transportation needs.
Circulating with the same fluid system on top holes greatly saves on chemical consumption and logistical requirements.
Removing a section reduces rig time together with optimized operations. Improving margins and tripping faster is a notable time saver.
Removing Casings/Liners and Cement Jobs
Top-holes can be drilled longer and sections combined with an engineered fluid with weighting materials. This is achieved by circulating with the same system instead of dumping the returns on the seabed.
The Dual Gradient Effect generated when using Controlled Mud Level (CML) MPD enables combining sections, particularly in deepwater operations, by creating a pressure profile aligning with the drilling window.
Reducing Chemical Consumption and Fluid Systems
Drilling top-holes with returns to the rig enables the same fluid system to be used throughout the section. The fluid can afterwards be utilized for the next section or other wells.
With CML MPD only one fluid system is required. The fluid level is adjusted instead of displacing between drilling fluids, cementing fluids and tripping fluids.
Less Logistics
Reducing the need for cement, fluid chemicals and fluid systems reduces transportation requirements.
Reducing Rig Time
Removing a section and tripping faster are significant time saving factors.
Reducing Emissions While Improving Operations
They go hand in hand and our approach is to reduce the carbon footprint by improving operations. Our systems EC-Drill® and RMR® optimizes operations and well design while reducing consumption in the process.
EC-Drill®
Controlled Mud Level for improved plans and simplified operations
By benefiting from the Dual Gradient Effect sections are combined as a standard in deepwater operations. The flat-time associated with MPD is removed saving rig time while avoiding the need for multiple fluid systems. Tripping faster is important for optimizing operations.
Key Benefits:
- Remove casing/liner
- Fewer fluid systems
- Reduce rig time
RMR®
Remove a section, reduce transportation, and prevent dumping
With a circulation system in place an engineered fluid is re-used removing the need for continuous supply of chemicals while addressing drilling challenges and providing a higher hydrostatic pressure enabling sections to be combined.
Key Benefits:
- Zero waste
- Reduced rig time
- Less logistics
