High ECD and small operating margins can necessitate the use of oil based fluids less favorable for the ensuing production. Narrow windows reduce trip speeds leaving the open hole exposed for longer heightening the risk of well collapse.

Select Your Preferred Fluid and Improve Trip Margins

Through precise pressure management a desired drill-in fluid can be used reducing skin damage. A higher density drill-in or completion fluid can be selected with EC-Drill® balancing out the heavier fluid with a lower level in the Riser. When tripping the margins are improved for faster trips leaving the open hole exposed for a shorter time.

Choice of Fluids

Water based Drill-in fluids generate more friction pressure but cause less damage to formation to be produced from. By lowering the fluid level in the riser to compensate for the friction these fluids can be used when drilling the reservoir. Having the choice of selecting a higher density completion fluid for its properties or cost/availability can also be beneficial.

 

Limiting Formation Exposure

By adjusting the fluid level in the Riser, the pressure profile can be moved to improve tripping margins and mitigate the surge and swab effect. The process is straightforward without having to displace the well or add or modify equipment. With faster trips comes less formation exposure time. A stuck pipe can be freed by adjusting the pressure in the well.

Regardless of operation or what you have in the well EC-Drill® can at any time adjust the pressure. EC-Drill® facilitates the use of higher density fluids and compensates for higher friction. Surge and swab effects are mitigated enabling higher tripping speeds.
