Managed Pressure Cementing
for Top-Hole Sections

Avoiding losses and improving the integrity of top-hole cementing.

Facing Losses While Cementing - and Channeling While Setting

Cementing in tight windows or unstable formations can lead to losses while cementing and prevent the top of cement reaching up to the seabed. When the cement is setting the hydrostatic pressure is reduced which increases the risk for channeling. The result might be reduced strength and integrity of the cement job.

Cementing Top Holes | Enhanced Drilling

Reduce the Annulus Pressure When Cementing and Apply Pressure While the Cement is Setting

By creating a closed-loop circulation system the annulus pressure can be adjusted when displacing the cement to get Top of Cement to Seabed.

Controlling the Annulus Pressure When Cementing

By reducing the pressure on the conductor housing the pressure during the cement placement is kept below the fracture pressure.

Adding Pressure During Curing Process of the Cement

By using valves on the low-pressure wellhead, the annular pressure can be managed while setting to provide integrity by fully isolating the formation.

Technology

Cementing top-hole sections in narrow pressure windows increases the risk of losses and poor zonal isolation, demanding precise pressure control.

MPC®

Precise Pressure Control Throughout the Cementing Operation

Compensate for over-pressured zones or weak formations. Increase margins when cementing and use regular cement even for challenging top-holes. Applying pressure while the cement is setting is effective barrier testing at the same time.

Key Benefits:

  • Prevent losses
  • Improve integrity
  • Cement longer sections
  • Enable use of standard cement
