Enhanced Drilling unveils new workshop facility in Baku

OILFIELD services company Enhanced Drilling has opened a new workshop and office facility in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Enhanced Drilling’s Vice President for Operations, Dr Anthony Brown, said: ‘Our new Baku workshop and office space will help future-proof Enhanced Drilling’s capabilities in the Caspian region.’

The new workshop (pictured as signs are being mounted) is located at Salyan Highway 22nd km and features 2,355sq metres of space. This means any support, maintenance and storage requirements for Enhanced Drilling’s systems, including RMR® Riserless Mud Recovery, MPC Managed Pressure Cementing and the CTS Cuttings Transportation System, are easily taken care of. The new workshop is three times the size of the facility formerly occupied by Enhanced Drilling in Baku, and features a 15-tonne gantry crane and test pool with integrated flow loop.

As part of the workshop’s official opening, customers and contacts were invited to tour the premises while also having the opportunity to take a closer look at hardware and systems demonstrations.

‘Service and support’

Dr Brown added: ‘I am extremely pleased and proud that Enhanced Drilling is investing in further securing its presence in the Caspian, enabling us to provide the very highest levels of service and support to our customers.’

Enhanced Drilling’s RMR® Riserless Mud Recovery system and complementary MPC Managed Pressure Drilling system have been used extensively in the Caspian, as well as across various locations worldwide. Together with the CTS Cuttings Transportation system, the technologies have collectively been used on more than 600 wells globally to date.

‘Safety enhancing’

RMR® is a safety enhancing, innovative way of returning mud and cuttings to the rig before the drilling riser is run, without any discharge to the seabed. This means engineered, weighted drilling fluid can be used on the top-hole section. RMR® enables this vital section of a well to be drilled more safely, quickly and with less environmental impact. It was first launched commercially 13 years ago and, since then, Enhanced Drilling has continued to refine and develop the system’s equipment as well as the services and the best practices that go with it.

‘Solving challenges’

MPC Managed Pressure Cementing, meanwhile, solves two major challenges encountered with conventional cementing techniques: effective slurry placement in a Narrow Pressure Window Scenario, plus gas flow issues after cementing. It does this by enabling the successful isolation of high-pressure, unconsolidated water/gas-bearing formations with high-performance cement.
